Savage model 110 25-06 bolt- action rifle review

I recently bought the Savage Model 110 25-06 bolt action rifle about 2 months ago. It is usually considered a varmint gun but I was curious if it had enough punch to it to take down a White Tail Deer. Accuracy wise it performs excellent. Smooth bolt action transition and doesn't stick, loads and unloads perfectly. Its a nice solid built gun and weighs a decent amount. In my opinion it is a very nice gun for the price and is my new favorite. They can run usually about $350-$450. Ammunition wise I use Remington Core-lokt bullets that perform nicely. 

As for the question I have not answered yet will this caliber bring down a deer? The answer is yes. I shot this good sized Doe below at the beginning of the season to try it out. As you can see the bullet left devastation in its way. So to some up the Savage Model 110 25-06 gets a 5 star review from me. What I use personally in the field.....

I use two things to attract white tails when hunting. The first is deer corn. A 40 LB bag usually lasts me about a week and a half. I usually make two good size corn piles in different areas. The most effective way of using deer corn is to keep it plentiful throughout the year in the same places. Deer establish in their minds that the corn piles are always a food source and that keeps them coming back. A  40 LB bag usually cost around $8-$11. The second thing I use is Deer Cane in the powder form. I do not recommend using the pre-mixed solution or the solid blocks because of the quantity they give you. You get double the amount in the powder form and it makes two 4-foot diameter mineral sites. I mix around half the bag into a five gallon bucket filled with about 4 gallons of water. I pick a nice clear space with no high grass, sticks, etc. Then I simply pour it onto the ground in a circle. Deer Cane offers essential minerals and nutrients for a bucks body and his rack development. Once mixed and poured onto the ground you will not see instant results. First time I tried it it took 2 weeks to determine whether it worked or not. When you look at the spot you poured it you will see paw marks, scrapings, and possible a good sized hole in the ground. The reason for the hole in the ground is that eventually the minerals from the Deer Cane seep into the ground over time, becoming a natural mineral lick. Apply every month or two all year long to keep the bucks coming back. I paid about $9-$10 for it and a bag lasts for me about two months because I only have 1 mineral site. Those are the two simple things I use to attract deer. Happy Hunting!
